Roy Ananda

Roy Ananda is a South Australian artist, writer and lecturer. Since 2001 he has exhibited widely, holding solo exhibitions in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and regional Victoria as well as participating in dozens of group exhibitions around Australia. Roy has received numerous grants from ArtsSA, The National Association for the Visual Arts and Australia Council; in 2010 he was the South Australian recipient of the Qantas Foundation Art Award. Roy’s work frequently centres on speculative, process-based sculptural practice. His objects and installations reflect on the very act of making, yet are far from introspective. Rather, they lurch forth with the larger-than-life physicality of cartoons, slapstick and swashbuckling adventure. In addition to these on-going, frequently large-scale works, the artist continues to generate a body of more discreet drawings and objects that pay homage to his pop culture influences. Roy is represented by Dianne Tanzer Gallery + Projects, Melbourne.
