Bachelor of Visual Art (Honours)

Applications to study the BVA [Hons] in 2018 are now open

The BVA [Hons] is a one year full-time program open to high-achieving students that have completed an undergraduate degree in visual art. The program provides students with an opportunity to extend their artistic practice and develop their research skills and understanding of contemporary art. Under the guidance of a supervisor, students will engage in practice-led research, utilising a range of methodologies to develop an original body of artwork and corresponding exegesis. The BVA [Hons] program equips students to pursue careers as practising artists and provides a pathway to post-graduate research programs.

The BVA [Hons] may only be studied on a full-time basis. Students work under the guidance of a supervisor and are allocated individual studios in the Teaching & Studio Building with 24-hours/7 days a week access. Entry to the BVA [Hons] program is by a written application and includes a project proposal and portfolio interview.

I finished my BVA [Hons] at the end of 2014 and felt well prepared to enter the art world. Not only did I learn the skills necessary for a practising artist, I also learned to professionally communicate my ideas.

Adelaide Central School of art is a world-class art school. I found the teachers and office staff to be extremely helpful and generous with their time and knowledge. As BVA and Honours students we were also able to utilise the beautiful studio facilities, set in the historical, award winning building on the edge of Adelaide CBD. I treasure my time at Adelaide Central School of Art and am honoured to be an alumni of the school.

- Monika Morgenstern, 2014 Graduate of the BVA [Hons]

My time in the Honours program at the Adelaide Central School of Art was one of formative artistic progress, where I was given the time and space required to gather a body of knowledge that still informs my research today. The program afforded me the opportunity to extend the developments made during my undergraduate degree, and prompted me to think critically about these ideas. I found the ideal balance of support and independence through weekly meetings with my supervisor, as well as the broader staff/student community by way of a consistent and supportive critique program.
