Awards announced at 2016 Helpmann Academy Graduate Exhibition opening

Nine emerging artists presented with awards, including five graduates from the School

The 2016 Helpmann Academy Graduate Exhibition was officially opened by Tony Stephens, Director of Artbank Australia, on Thursday 11 February 2016.

The exhibition features a group of 39 emerging South Australian artists selected from 168 graduates from the Helpmann Academy’s visual arts partner institutions which include Adelaide Central School of Art, Adelaide College of the Arts, and UniSA’s School of Art, Architecture & Design.

Ten awards were presented at the opening, and we are delighted to congratulate the following five 2015 graduates of the School, who were named as recipients of six awards:

  • Jane Skeer, presented the Hill Smith Academy/Helpmann Academy Friends Award
  • Tara O'conal, presented the CACSA Emerging Artist Award
  • Luke Wilcox, presented both the SALA Festival Award and the Royal South Australian Society of Arts Award
  • Timmi Tsapaliaris, presented the Peter Walker Fine Art Encouragement Award
  • Jonathan George, presented the Backer's Prize.

We also congratulate Emmaline Zanelli and Jack Ladd (Adelaide College of the Arts graduates), and Cara Pearson and Joshua Stoker (School of Art, Architecture and Design graduates) who were also named as award recipients on the night.
