2016 British School at Rome Residency Announced

Congratulations Deborah Prior, 2006 BVA graduate

Deborah Prior, Adelaide artist and graduate of the School, was recently announced as the recipient of the 2016 Helpmann Academy British School at Rome Residency.

Generously funded by David and Pam McKee and The Wood Foundation, the Residency allows an emerging artist to undertake a three month tenure at the British School at Rome from April - June 2016.

The British School at Rome (BSR) is Britain's leading humanities research institute abroad and one of the most prestigious foreign academies in the Italian capital. The Residency will provide Deb with the opportunity to base and develop her practice at BSR, show work in the group mostra towards the end of the tenure, and be included in the BSRĘžs annual Fine Arts catalogue.

Nic Brown and Mary-Jean Richardson, who both teach at the School, are previous recipients of the BSR Residency.

Deb, who works primarily in textiles, completed her Bachelor of Visual Art at Adelaide Central School of Art in 2006. She has also completed a PhD at the School of Art, Architecture and Design at the University of South Australia.

To support Deb's residency, an exhibition of her selected works is being held at praxis ARTSPACE until 2 April 2016. The works will be available to purchase at sale prices for a limited time. All proceeds will go to the artist (praxis ARTSPACE will not take any commission). Find out more.
