30 November 2017

Gabrielle Lane, a final year Master of Arts (Curatorial and Museum Studies) student, is the inaugural recipient of a new prize: the Adelaide Central School of Art Emerging Curator Award for Excellence.

Announced at the Art Gallery of South Australia last week, this award acknowledges the top achieving student and provides an exclusive opportunity for the recipient to curate an exhibition in Adelaide Central School of Art’s 2018 program.

The exhibition will be held in Adelaide Central Gallery in August 2018 for the South Australian Living Artist’s (SALA) Festival. The award offers invaluable industry experience to the recipient and aims to connect South Australia’s most promising emerging curators with the talented emerging and established artists of the School’s community.

“The recognition and reward that awards offer students in the formative time after completing study are sources of inspiration and encouragement in their burgeoning careers,” says Ingrid Kellenbach, Adelaide Central School of Art CEO.

“We are delighted to offer this award, which acknowledges Gabrielle’s academic merit, dedication to her study, and also her potential to do well in the arts industry.”

Professor Catherine Speck, Coordinator of Postgraduate Programs in Art History and Curatorial and Museum Studies at the University of Adelaide said, “The University of Adelaide is delighted to see our top Curatorial graduand on her way to her first exhibition.”
