8 March - 19 April

Grounded

Nic Brown, Cathy Frawley, Sally Parnis and Lyn Wood

To be opened Friday 8 March from 6-8pm by Amanda Pepe, CEO, Helpmann Academy

at Fisher Jeffries Foyer Space, Level 1, 19 Gouger Street, Adelaide

Nic Brown, Cathy Frawley, Sally Parnis and Lyn Wood are four artists who recognize landscape in their work. Their approach to landscape could be described as immersive, and the products of their engagement are at once different from, and harmonious with, each other.

Landscape becomes not so much a subject for their work as a site for exploration. Each artist translates her lived experience for the viewer. Each in her different way weaves the complex relationship between mind, body and the environment and creates portals for the viewer to share a new experience of what landscape might signify, whether that be home, journey, sensation, poetic space, site for transcendence, or part of a shifting reality.

Fringe Festival Exhibition

Curated by Terence Maloon, Former Senior Curator of Special Exhibitions,

Art Gallery of New South Wales

Virginia Coventry, Jan King, Paul Selwood and Aida Tomescu

This exhibition presents the work of four highly individual artists, but its aim is to emphasise the commonality that unites them. Aida Tomescu’s paintings and Jan King’s sculptures revel in their virtuosic command of drawing, exploring a choreography and an architecture born from gesture. The planar shapes and poetry of colour that are common features of Virginia Coventry’s paintings and Paul Selwood’s sculptures prove no less compelling: with great intellectual rigour and exceptional flair the artists extend the geometrical language that has run the course of modern art, from cubism to minimal art, endowing it with a lyricism uniquely their own.

To be opened 24 February 2012, 6-8pm by Terence Maloon

Godwin Bradbeer 'Crimes Against Modernity- Selected Drawings 1975-2011'

Bradbeer's works of art are intense with stark and mysterious atmospheres that command a powerful presence within any room. In the artist’s own words, the works featured in Crimes Against Modernity are works ‘that might provide an apologia for my aesthetic conviction, one that I recognise has been substantially oppositional to international modernism throughout my career in art’.

Helen Fuller  'Winding Threads'

Winding Threads is a solo exhibition by Helen Fuller featuring paintings and hand built ceramics. Inspired by a recent field trip to the Koonalda Caves on the Nullarbor Plains, the exhibition is a journey into the darkness of these dark limestone vaults, which when illuminated with artificial light, reveal their brilliant white walls covered with rhythmic Indigenous hand markings.

Artist Talk: Sunday 28 August 12pm

2 Sep - 1 Oct Kate Morkunas, Annalise Rees, Roy Ananda  'The Jumper and the Nail'
The Jumper and The Nail is an exhibition of recent works by Roy Ananda, Kate Morkunas and Annalise Rees. Whilst each of these artists uses line, surface and edge in 3D space in a unique way, connecting their practises is their engagement with various different forms of three-dimensional drawing and their fondness for handcrafted things. Kate's delicate wire installations are developed through a contemplation of how everyday objects become a part of us. Annalise's works explore notions of place and identity and the complex relationships and dynamics between self and environment. Roy's large scale, process-driven construction resembles a kit model gone awry, its eccentric modular forms recalling various aspects of geek culture and science-fiction.
Artist Talk: Friday 9 September 12:15pm
7 Oct - 5 Nov

Nic Folland, Akira Akira, Wendy Fairclough 'Still Life Still'
Akira’s contributions in Still Life Still stem from his continued interest in merging both ‘found’ and constructed objects to create his sculptural forms. Wendy Fairclough’s delicate glass sculptures, of identifiable every-day objects, uphold her ongoing exploration of human experiences while Nicholas Folland’s works, that span over a decade, focus on the anxiety for the potential failure in everyday activities.
