Adelaide Central Gallery began in 1987 as an artist-run exhibition space and has evolved into one of Adelaide's most prominent contemporary non-profit galleries.  Elizabeth Pascale was appointed Gallery Director in May 2008.

The curated program of monthly changing exhibitions includes both emerging and established artists working in a wide range of media, including painting, drawing, prints, photography, sculpture, ceramics, glass, video and multimedia. There is a particular focus on representing emerging artists who are ACSA graduates or associated with ACSA as current or former art lecturers.  The program also includes both solo and group exhibitions by leading national and occasional international artists. 

Exhibiting artists give informal lectures in the gallery on a regular basis.  Guided tours and floor talks can be arranged by appointment for school groups or social groups of ten or more. 

The main gallery is complemented by the adjoining Studio Gallery and Student Galleries.

Adelaide Central Gallery is exclusive representative in South Australia for the estate of Pro Hart.  There is a stockroom of work by South Australian artists.
